Care Leavers Week 2016

 

Care Leavers Week 2016 was a huge success. With various activities going on throughout the week, there were so many opportunities to have your say and get involved, but most importantly, have fun too!

 

 

Can Cook Will Cook

 

The Can Cook Will Cook event looked at developing the skills necessary for independent living. At the event we found ourselves creating our own recipes and rustling up a few dishes (whilst making plenty of mess!).

 

here’s an example of some of the recipes we created:

Loui’s scrambled mix:

  • 2 eggs
  • Mushrooms
  • 1 red onion
  • Peppers
  • Add garlic and all-purpose seasoning /garlic
  • Small amount of grated cheese

(Cut and wash all vegetables)

Scramble the eggs, (microwave or use sauce pan- you can add milk or spices to this to give it more flavour)

In a sauce pan; Mix the cut peppers, mushrooms and onion together with spices (until cooked/slightly brown)

Tortilla wraps- warm these up for a few seconds

Add the scrambled eggs and mixture together, add some grated cheese into the wrap, roll and enjoy!

Here’s an example of some of the dishes that were put together

 

 

Miguel’s rice, noodle and coconut milk surprise:

  • 2 Chicken breast (diced)       Noodle.png
  • 4 Noodles balls
  • Rice
  • Mushrooms
  • 1 Pepper
  • 1 Red onion
  • 1 Vegetable stock
  • 1 tin of Coconut milk
  • Spice

Cut and prepare the peppers, red onion and mushrooms. (All chopped into slices)

Add the chopped up ingredients to a frying pan and cook for 5 minutes.

Cut 2 chicken breast into small diced pieces, then add to a frying pan and cook for 8-10 minutes until fully white in colour. (Cut a couple of pieces of the chicken in half to check that no pink colour is visible, then you will know that the chicken is fully cooked.)

Add rice and 4 balls of dry eggs noodles to a saucepan of heated up coconut milk, leave to boil for 7 minutes and then stir.

Bring to the boil and add 1 cube of vegetable stock for added flavour.

Using a colander drain most of the coconut milk from the saucepan leaving about half a cup full of the milk left.

When everything is fully cooked serve even amounts of the noodles and rice onto each plate and add the chicken and vegetables onto. Then season with spice.
